I have a problem in my E200 W210. After starting the engine, somehow the engine misfires and the lights of the ETS and ABS lights up together at the dash board with the beeping sound of the hazard triangle light. The engine then dies but after the restart, the engine is smooth but the ETS and ABS remained lighted. The power steering then is slightly heavy. After driving carefully, no excessive speeding, the lights just switched off and all goes well wonderfully well.
My mechanic uses a hand held computer, plug into the car, came up with fault replies. Then he erases it and reset and after restarting, no fault were reported. But the faults come again the next day. Any one can help me on this? Thanks n regards |

Need to find WHAT faults were registered by the traction computer, like wheel speed sensor or voltage supply. Have technician let you know what faults are there before erasing.

Asked the mechanic who said it is the sensor located at the rear wheel that measures the wheel traction and rotation. It could be a signal that's stored in the computer.

Seems as though the 1995 & later cars w/out ASR or ESP have had the rear speed sensor problem, replaced several!

Doc, Many thanks for the advice. From your experience, is it confined only to the rear sensor or others?
Yep, mine is a 1996 W210 car. Is it a very expensive part? Thanks |

Hi Doc,
Just like to let you know that there's apossibility the battery that gave me all these problems. The other day, the starting was quite heavy and the red and green light kept flashing after the engine started. Took it to the shop and got the battery replaced. No sign of the lights or anything.Things just disappeared. That's 2 weeks already. Finger crossed and hope everything is due to the low voltage. Thanks for your help. |

Most of the computers are voltage sensitive, but traction system ECU's are very sensitive. OVER charging is a problem on newer cars, have found many that show 15-17V. If battery had problem while driving, you should have charging system tested also!

Hi Doc,
Test performed on the alternator showed 12.5 to 13.5 V. THe mechanic performed the test before changing the battery. Glad every thing is doing fine except I got to take care of the cracking insulation of the wiring harness. Thanks again for the help. |
