The alarm sounds when I try to LOCK the car with the master key. Unlocking immediately stops the alarm. This works same for any lockable door (driver/passenger) and the trunk.

The radio was removed recently (3 days ago) under normal circumstances (with an open car) and the wires are currently hanging in the radio compartment.

I can start the car and everything else seems to be in order.

I disconnected the battery for 30 sec, but that did not help...

My current solution was to let the alarm run for 60+30+60 sec, as I need to loack the car...

Any suggestions? Any way to re-set the alarm?

Andre.

Try a different door. If that doesn't work, you could unplug the control unit...IT is under the passenger's carpet. It is a small black box with 2 connectors on it.

Thanks for your reply.

I just did that - there's a small rectangular black box, which actually looks like a fancy connector (right?) with 2 white wires coming out of and in it.

Zero effect.

The alarm still goes on. The interesting thing is that I can QUICKLY turn the key back (lock) and forward (unlock); this locks the doors and the alarm stops.

Could this be something with the power central locking?

Any help is appreciated as this is becoming a real pain in the butt...

Thanks again,

Andre.

Andre--

There is a thread that I started awhile back about alarm problems. Some folks had suggestions about a failed driver's side door lock which you might find interesting and helpful. MY alarm used to go off when I UNLOCKED the driver's side door. No effect when opening the other doors or the trunk. I decided not to try to further diagnose the problem and simply disconnected the horn portion of the alarm (at the horn itself under the hood on top of the driver's side wheelwell). The lights still flash when the problem crops up, but I just relock and unlock again to stop that little annoyance. Sounds like you do the same kind of thing. I will take a look at unplugging the control unit and maybe someday look to find out the true problem and correct it.

My 1st wife just called to try to determine if she could extract more $$$, so I don't think I'll be doing many really expensive things for a little while. But I'm about to rant so I'd better get off ....

Did you ground the wire behind the radio?
There is a wire that has to be grounded or else the alarm will sound. It is designed to ground when the radio is in place. Once you remove it, it will sound the alarm as if someone stole it.
Check it out. It is all the way in the back of the radio compartment. Right down the middle on the bottom part. If it isn't there it might have fallen out of place. It looks like a small clip.

If it doesn't work disconnect the alarm under the passenger footwell, as Benzmac suggested already. It is approximately 2"x6" in size with a white sticker on it. It has two plugs one 12 pin and the other 14, I think.

You probably disconnected something else because there is no way that the alarm can go off if you disconnect the alarm control unit.

Thanks all!

I'll try disconnecting the right thing this time !

I'll also look for the grounding wire (I think I know which one you're talking about...)

BTW, the alarm goes off from ANY lockable door and the trunk.

Thanks for your time.

Andre.

Lock - Flash - Radio out

Similiar problem. Whilst trying to learn why my radio antenna doesn't extend, pulled radio out looking for obvious connector loose, haven't found it. BUT NOW...

When I lock the car, doors or trunk, lights flash as though the hazard switch was on. I assume this is an alarm. Didn't see any unconnected wire.

Immediate questions...
1) what does this radio wire look like? Color, connector? etc. I need clues.
2) what is the harm of removeing the alarm module...car won't start etc?
3) car doesn't have a dash antenna switch...can it be elsewhere?

Similar problem

OK...found the silly nuisance. The wire which needs to be attached to the radio has an insulated push-on connector. It is distinguished by a 1/4" wide, inch long spring which extends from the connector. This spring ends up underneath the radio when the connector is pushed onto the ground connector. This ground connector blade is on the rear of the radio, center bottom.

Mr. Benz...why did you do this to us. The radios are not worth the hassle. If someone wishes to steal a radio, make it easy for them...not hard for us.

Anyway...my lights no longer flash when I lock the doors. I assume if I had a working alarm speaker under the car, it would be whelping in distress when the lights are flashing.

Still haven't gotton the antenna to extend. Somehow I get the feeling I'm talking to myself. Merrry New Year.

ive got the same problem although its intermittant.to defeat i open the rear door reach over and push down the drivers door lock button.im not sure if the alarm is set properly when done this way but it stops the flashing lights and beeping horn.i think the problem is related to alarm related wiring to the hood, trunk or doors.it will happen anytime i open the front hood then attempt to lock the car

I also have an 'occasional' false alarm problem.

My car is too old to worry about theft- I would like to simply disable the alarm.
Are there any side effects to unplugging the control unit? Is it in the same place for my model year?
