hi all, i'm new to the forum so go easy on me. just got an '87 300e this winter (my first mercedes and a beauty) w/only 99,000 miles. has had a valve job and is in good shape, save for a frontal collision she endured within the last year (repaired nicely in my admittedly inexperienced opinion). runs great, fast, all that. problem originally was just that it required to be started twice before it would catch and idle properly, though only when the car had already been driven up to operating temp. has always started right up from cold. figured, i'm overworking the starter, but i could afford to put off repair while i tried to figure out what was causing the problem. now that the weather is warm, she is trying to stall every time i slow down to idle, in addition to the starting problem. whenever the engine does stall on startup, it always starts on the second try. i've read a lot of things could cause these problems, from the fuel pump relay, ovp relay, all the way to the ecu or the airflow sensor pot. any suggestions where to start or how to isolate which component is causing the mal****ion under these conditions? i know there are lots of threads on this, but it's hard to condense it all into something useful for this particular set of problems. had an "mb specialist" look at, he tweaked the lambda unit and actually lowered my idle speed which surely did not help. $160 and it stalls on the way home. i don't want to bring it back to him, i'm afraid i'll end up with $1000 in repairs and still the same problem. any ideas?
