I just bought an '87 300D Turbo.Love It! After reading my owners manual through several times I have come to realize my alarm is NOT working. The owners manual say once you lock the car from either the drivers door or trunk the alarm is active. How do i confirm this?I locked the car and waited several minutes, came back and bounced the car at least ten times which should set the alarm off.NOTHING!Is there a "beep" or something that lets you know when it's armed?
The car had one owner. An older German fellow and I am assuming he may have disabled it after inadvertently setting it off and embarassing himself a few times.Every thing is there and all the fuses are good.It just doesn't work.Is there a "trick" I'm missing? Thanks for the help.Joe.

I was told that if I wanted to disconnect the alarm I should look under the floor carpeting on the passenger side and I would find a connector (about six inches)that I should pull apart (to disc.) By the way, old alarm systems are like us when we get old....they go off at the wrong time. I park my car on a city street and if it goes off I have to get up.

Good luck.

As far as I know your car/year only will set off the alarm if the trunk/hood/doors are opened after the alarm is set. It does not have any motion or shock sensors. Try this, roll your window down and then get out of the car and lock the door with the key. If you reach in and pull up on the lock and then open the door, the car alarm should go off. The alarm is just the horn beeping. To turn off the alrm use the key to unlock the door-lock the door-then unlock the door.
Good luck and let us know what happens.
