I'm looking to get some European headlights for my 1982 300D, US model. I'm planning to get the "newer" one-piece rectangular style, and my question is: Is the wiring the same, or does anything need to be changed for the lights to be funtional? Thanks.

Speedy,
You will need to reconfigure the plugs that connect to the headlight assembly. You will take apart the connector and just move the pins around in the connector. When I put mine in, I used an ohmmeter to figure out which pin went where. I'm an old electronics guy so this wasn't a big deal. If doing it this way is intimidating to you, let me know and I'll go to my car and make you a wire list. I would suggest using standard H4 bulbs. The high power ones will not gain alot and will melt the internals of your expensive lights. What makes a great light is the reflector and lense, not the power of the bulb. The Euro lights have much improved reflectors and lenses, so you won't need the high power bulbs. Good luck, |
