560SL rear hardtop/soft top latch adjustment
Can someone tell me how this latch assembly is adjusted? Soft top has a tendency to "stick" when attempting to remove. Can the cable length be adjusted?

no response
Boys and girls, a number of people have "looked"at my post however no one has responded. Am I missing something here? I diligently checked all the prior posts thinking that someone may have already posted a question on this (I'm told this is a fairly common complaint) but could not find a post dealing with this problem. Is it that this compliant is too common and unworthy of a response? If so, please let me know and I'll withdraw the question.

You'll need to make yourself a shim to put around the cable near the latch in the center of the rear. with the back part of the top up, play with the release handle and you'll see the spot where the outer cable is moving, preventing the top from opening.

On one of my 280SL's, I ended up having to shorten the cable and re-kink it to get the pin to release. Works fine now.

My 560SL had an adjustment which was on the driver's side as I recall but you need to have the hard top removed and the swinging cover opened to get to it - then you will see the mechanism where the cable goes to the linkage to the release.
If the hard top is fitted and won't come off you need to get another person and lift and turn it to get it to release, then you can remove it. The cable adjustment was very intuitive as I recall and took about 15 minutes to get it just right.

will try some suggestions given
A number of people have responded not only by post but by email to me as well and I thank you. I will try your suggestions. As a further note, with the (perhaps erroneous) assumption (I'm all thumbs) that I can actually fix this, does anyone know if the chrome wrap around pieces and the chromed "receiver" piece is still available from Mercedes or through an aftermarket supplier. I checked on rechroming and found it to be very expensive!
