CA Smog check results....

So my car (1990 2.6 manual) passed today, but I noticed 2 interesting things on the results page:

1 - I barely passed the HC @ 15mph; only 2 ppm below the max. FYI: HC @ 25 mph was 51ppm, max was 88, ave was 20. Everything else passed with ease. I'm guessing it's still running a bit rich.

2 - EGR Functional test was Not Applicable....does that mean they only do a visual check on the EGR?

Hi,
My 190E 2.6 manual 1990 had similar results. As long as the car pass I really don't care much about it.
AND

It's not running rich!!! Your results are typical because of catalyst cool down.

Look at the following thread and the thread it refers to.

dead cat

Hi,

Your cat performance is low. This can be fixed by replacing your cat.

The EGR if inspected properly is connected to a hand vacuum pump and checked for leaks. When they say N/A it often means they didn't check it or that it is solenoid activated and they didn't energize it.

Cheers,
Yoko

His calalyst is probably degraded, but certainly does not need replacement. Read the links I posted an get educated about emission control systems and technology.

Thanks for the info & link, everyone. I have some justification to replace my cat in the near future

As an aside, I know that there were at least 2 other 2.6 5-speeds running around in Northern CA......one was in San Jose, the other was somewhere like Vallejo. And, don't forget Duke has a 2.6 5-speed as well.
