I would like to replace the whole engine but at this point I am thinking of replacing the pistons and rebuild the head. I just keep kicking myself with the chain tensioner. I just relized that I should of resent the damn tensioner and could not for the life of me see how to reset it so I thought puting it back with the same chain and tensioner would be fine. I was dead wrong. Now looking at bottom end and top end. Just alot of information to consider. My hesitation with a used engine is that how do I really know how many miles are on it?? A rebuild engine is approx 4,000 and the car is 91 300te with 188,000 miles. Car at best would be worth 6,000 due to it being a 4matic. Car body and interior looks like it has 50,000 miles on it. Any ideas would be great!!! DOES ANYONE HAVE A PICTURE OF WHAT A GOOD PISTON ON A (91 300 TE 4matic wagon LOOK LIKES GREATLY APPRECEIATED

I live 45 minutes north of Philadelphia in a town called Skippack. I am concerned that the oil pan on the above post is cracked and do we know if this car was driven without oil???

As I have said in another thread, pull the head, replace the bent valves and reassemble. The pistons will be fine. 185,000 miles is low mileage on the bottom end even if the oil has been changed only fairly frequently. You will be MUCH better off.

Good luck,

there is a used car dealer here with a 300e on his lot... it needs a hood part of the bumper and a right front quarter panel... i think it runs well.... he was asking 1200, a few months ago.....

Forget the junk yard. There's a reason why they are called "junk" yards.

Go with Larry's idea. The bottom end on the 103 motor is very strong if the oil has been changed regularly.

Just fix what's hosed up on the top end.

Besides a sedan probably won't have load leveling.
