Anti-lock light on-what's that mean?

86 560sl

Came on twice on startup twice today, once yesterday, eventually went off. What gives?

Thanks.

Simplest diagnosis would be a problem with one of the front wheel speed sensors for the ABS. Remove them, clean them and the hub surface where they sit in proximity, and see if that helps.

Exclamation

Not related to speed IF the lamp went off with-out cyclying the key.

IF the lamp went off while driving then POWER supply would be the problem!

Most likely is the voltage supply relay in the hydraulic unit. The overvoltage relay can also cause that problem. ALSO the charging system(alternator) may be to blame!

Any relation to....?

Been experiencing hard re-starts lately that I thought was fuel related. Is there any way the ABS light indicator could be a symptom of something that could relate at all to a no-start?

I know, grasping at straws....

Both point to possible OVP
Next time same condition presents, go tap the OVP a few w/screwdriver handle and retry..
Real hi-tech approach , huh??
..but it works in IDing a bad OVP..

Would you be so kind as to...

point me at the OVP so I can swing the screwdriver at the right thing? I wouldn't want to just start beating on stuff and miss it (and I have no clue as to it's location.)

Thanks.

Give it a try!

Ignition OFF.

Nothing could be easier. On my 107 Euro it is located just over the right passenger kick panel above the fuse box. Pull the OVP and it comes right out. Push a new one in. The hardest part is removing the interior panels. You might have to lie on your back in the passenger foot well. Anyone can do it.
