need info on how to change a Tumbler in 500sl

Can someone please give me some info on changing a tumbler in a 1991 500sl , I already have the new tumbler and key , thanks

129 tumbler

from the work instructions, it looks like the entire lock assembly has to be removed for the job, look at the document below

The black ring around the tumbler has to be CUT off. MOST of the time a complete new steering lock is required!

I'm trying to help a local guy with the same problem on a 300SL. We have got the key in the #1 position but are playing heck cutting the black ring. What do you folks that have done this before use to cut it with?
