An '85 16V is gray market - emissions control by bubba with no documentation and many were fraudulently certified. I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Has it had an emission test? Seller's responsibility! The results could be telling.

By another M103 powered US model.

Great advice, didn't know they were grey market cars. I'll ask for the smog check if he has it then I'll check it out.

maybe true

about the grey market issue, but it seems like a low price. course the speedo would have been changed if it is grey market.

i bought a grey market car which i doubt was correctly certified. i asked my insurance co if they would insure it. they said yes. i bought it. no emmission checks in indiana. no problem. had the car two years or so sold it off. missed it . bought it back ten years later. this year.

They are great cars, but like others have said this sounds like a strange deal. If I recall climent control parts for a euro model are a pain to obtain. You could prob. get a legit one in Ca. for just a few thousand more and it would prob. even have good documentation and service records.

climate control

for many of the euro cars is much simpler and less likely to fail or cause problems. the big parts such as compressor are the same. so that would not bother me and i would find it a plus.

Exclamation

California emissions are tough even for 20 year old cars!

I would have a VERY trusted MB technition check the car over for needed repairs! PRE-purchase inspection including a compression test!!!
