a/c recharged but not cool enough

I have small R12 freon leak. I went to shop to find leak. They said that they have to recharge the system and put dye in system and when A/C will blow warm to come back and they will find leak. System was recharged. But when I sat in traffic I felt not that cool inside the cabin. Once I resumed cruising speed it became pretty cool inside cabin again. Also when I drove in stop and go city traffic I also felt kind of warm. Shop says its normal but I just serviced A/C on my other car and it blows cold all the time. Is there other components I should tell them to check? Like expansion valve or anything else? Should I replace receiver/drier maybe? Shop says compressor is good and ans come on and car does not go above 100 degrees on hottest days and recylce air valve is working fine. Any ideas?
Thank you
Victor

How much did they put in there?
Did they get any pressure readings?
A slight decrease in efficiency for the AC during a STOP, I asume is logical due to the heat of the engine.

I reccomened to upgrade to R13 if you do work on your AC that requires to empty the lines

good luck

i looked on gauge when he was testing system after recharge and i believe it was around 53 on idle and around 40 at 1500rpm. are these good readings? they said they put 2 1/2lb of R12 freon it system plus some dye. is that how much 300E A/C takes to be fully charged?
thank you

a/c

if it is cool when you drive and warm when you sit, the first thing that comes to my mind is are the aux fan (s) working when the a/c is on?

Same problem

Hello- I just wanted you to know that my daughters' 190d has exactly the same problem.
Was recharged last week, they said that they couldn't find any leaks. (previous owner had stated there were leaks) 10 minutes after leaving the shop in slow city traffic it started to cool down a tiny bit. On the freeway it actually got cool enough to i could take it off 'max' setting. Alas, when back in traffic, we both had beads of sweat on our foreheads. Perhaps because we spend $200 for a five degree temperature drop?
The only thing we've been able to do is keep it on the max setting and keep the vents at 1/2 way open...this seems to make the air cooler by limiting the flow. Sad, i know, but I wonder if you might be doing the same thing...

Expansion valve

I had a similar problem with my 92 Saab 900 Convertible. Turned out to be the expansion valve.

Check for vacuum leaks

One problem I had with my 1990 W124 was vacuum leaks inside one of the vacuum elements behind the glove box. The leak prevented the doors that direct air flow to the vents from working properly thus I never could get good cold air out of the system. I spent a lot of time messing with the freon charge (which was fine all along) before I located the vacuum leak.

But start with the aux fans up front, make sure the come one after the engine warms up.
