Benzfan thanks for your reply....nice to know yourre from Toronto!

Me and my father were discussing all of this and yeah we couldnt figure out why a aftermarket cat converter wouldnt work!? It did on my dads Grand Cherokee and my old SEL. He did aswell go to Noizeboys

Another thing I forgot to mention is the trunk lock tumbler is either seized or something....doesnt turn with the key. He said its $900....I said WHAT!? Prob another load of crap at this point.

We've come down to the conclusion (and hope its the right one) the car is obviously not new anymore and just needs some basic TLC and its own maintenance but will try and get the used car dealer to do as much as they are willing to.

As far as warranty it comes with a 2yr powertrain type warranty (engine-tranny) but for $400 extra u get one which covers the AC and some other stuff with unlimited mileage. Probabaly should get that!

The engine and transmission on the car checked out perfect and no leaks anywhere. Car has minimal or none rust. MTO papers showed no accidents or salvage.

If anyone else has extra info please chime in.

It's always the peripheral stuff on a Benz that can cost you the earth. If everything electric works (climate control, seats, windows, etc.), then it is probably OK to buy it. Routine maintenance parts should never be a reason to not buy a car. I know you'll like it. My wife's C280 has almost 300,000km on it now and it still behaves and drives as new. It has been across the country twice with no hassles. We are considering giving it to my parents and getting her a smaller, more fuel-efficient car for her long commute. If my >500,000km 190e which still consumed no oil when I sold it is any indication, my parents will get many years yet out of the C280.

Hey, the C230 Kompressors are great cars, too.

If you look at the performance figures, they are every bit as fast as the C280.

The 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are within a tenth of a second of each other.

The C230Ks are great ya....I found that they "felt" faster than the C280 but not as refined or smooth.

Exactly, not nearly as refined or smooth, but then again you get better fuel economy.

Did you finally sell your 380SEL?

Needs MB Cat? hardy har har!

I agree with Benzfan, I have a '98 C280 and it has a "two cat" assembly. One of mine busted inside and was rattling like heck. I actually bought the complete two cat assembly on the internet for about $250.00 and had a local indie replace it. It installed like a champ (cost me $60.00 in labor) and it passes Texas smog testing just fine and runs well.

The guy is hosed.
