W123 Transmission Slippage
Hello. First of all let me say that this is pretty good forum loaded with information. I just signed up because about a month ago I bought 1980 300D auto trans with 93K. Yes 93k! However, transmission is acting up. I drove it once and this is what I’ve experience. Once you shift to “Drive” car requires some series revs to get rolling (half throttle at least). Same occurs in the “reverse”. Am I to assume that bands are shot. Yes, transmission fluid looks and smells burnt. Before I dive in transmission swap, I would like to make sure that this problem can be fixed by means of vacuum valve or some adjustment. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have done the search however never found specific information on my problem. Thanks in advance.
