95 e320 w124 Wagon Power Steering Braided hose
Braided hose leaking at PS pump. Hose goes from pump to self-leveling reservoir located in LF fender. Reservoir has slider into metal bracket, but brake lines to ABS "appear" to interfere with reservoir removal.
Suggestions for replacing braided hose and removing reservoir are appreciated. Other posts indicate there's a filter in the self-leveling reservoir cap. If so, how do I determine if filter needs replacing? Does PS pump supply pressure for self-leveling system? Is any de-pressurizing required before R&R? Could this PS leak contribute to "wandering" while cruising interstate? Car always has an alignment & tracking problem. Thanks, Bob |

The braided hose can be replaced with any equivalent hose from an auto parts store. It is not under any pressure, it is merely the feed from the reservoir to the pump.
I don't recall any difficulty removing the reservoir. Just remove the cap, move the return line out of the way, and slide it up and out. Don't remember any retaining screws or nuts that need to be removed. The filter is more of a fine strainer - it will be obvious when you remove the cap from the reservoir. It's only a few dollars, but is equally effective to just wash it in some mineral spirits and let dry. Any leaks are definately not causing wandering at highway speeds. Be certain to use the correct fluid when refilling the self-leveling reservoir. Incorrect fluid (eg motor oil) can cause expensive damage to the components of the suspension system. - JimY |

Thanks for the reply. Fortunately, I have MB PS fluid left from a previous leak. It's a tight fit between inner fender and brake unit with one hard line that might make it a litle difficult to remove.
Bob PS Guess, I'll have to continue with the losy tracking on this car. |
