High mileage S class

Just curious - would you guys purchase a high mileage relaively new S class. I've got an opportunity to purchase a 97 S with 110K miles on it. It's priced significantly lower than market for that year. I've owned 3 mercedes in the past (300D, 560SEL, E430) and have never gotten to that level of mileage except for the 300D.

I know the diesels run forever, but anyone have experience with what generally starts falling apart in the gasoline powered models ? Obviously time will be on its side since its only four years old, but it does have an average of 25-30K miles/year. Any thoughts ?

I have very limited mechanical exposure to Mercedes, but own three and love them all. I have an 87 260E with 280K+ miles and it is as strong as ever. The only item I would consider a non-typical regular maintenance item is the new radiator I installed.

I am very proactive in my belief on maintenance, but my income is directly commensurate with my ability to drive. I can honestly say with the three Mercedes I have now, totaling 483K+ miles, not all by me, I have not encountered anything I would not consider to be regular, prudent maintenance. Maybe I'm lucky!

I would also have to believe that some parts wear out due to age, and not necessarily mileage. Not sure about that one, but am inclined to belive so.

I wouldn't hesitate for a second buying a Mercedes with so few miles! :-) Assuming of course you know the maintenance history. I know my 260 is worth at least another 280K miles.

As long as it's well taken care of, I don't see any problems with high mileage at all. But truth is that with such high mileage in shorter than average time period, the previous owner may have skipped/ignored some of the major maintianence.

My suggestion is, do a research on the history of the car, find out which dealer/service adivsor serviced the car, and go have a chat with them face in face. Also, find out what has been done on the car in terms of repairs and services. Have the dealer print you a copy of the service history is highly advised.
