98 E300 - cabin air filter

Hello, I tried a search for the E300 cabin air filter but didn't get a hit. Looking to replace said filter if it's possible for a mere mortal like me. Can do some minor disassembly but if it's way up in the dash, I'll definitely NOT be changing it anytime soon. This is a 1998 E300TD with 102k on the clock.

You will neeed to remove the glove box. 6 screws & then pry down on the top of the liner, door stays attached.

M.B.Doc is obviously right, but just a word of caution: Make sure you get all the screws! Two of them are facing upwards and recessed in "tunnels" in the roof of the glove box. Others are behind a couple of rubber hole covers. You will need a short-handled phillips head to get them. And even after you are sure all of the screws are out, it will still take a firm pull on the glove box to get it out, it will make a "pop" when it releases. Getting at the filters is then fairly intuitive, and wait 'till you see all the crap they have caught since last changed, you will be glad you did this job. As for the charcoal filter, not sure if your model is equipped with this and don't really know how much difference it makes anyway, others may have an opinion but, for me, it always seemed like an unnecessary addition (unless you smoke and/or like to leave the air handling system on "recirculate")

Good luck,

g
