C/V Boot Question 91 300te 4matic

Finnaly got the car back on the road after my own failure to reset the chain tenssioner correctly. Will not make that same mistake again. My question is why is the inner front cv boot so damn expensive to replace??? Its just a damn boot after all. Any suggestions on where to purchase it and how can I save some cash?? The inner front cv joint is torn and of course grease went everywhere. Thank you for all your help and encouragement.

if you know

that it is freshly torn you may be able to find a patch kit and patch the boot wo removing the axle etc. also may be able to find a split boot for same purpose. ask your parts supplier.

Typically > repairing a torn CV boot requires removal of the axle shaft > removal of the CV bearing assembly > a messy job >> plus most of the time the CV bearing assy is pressed on and requires a mongo hydraulic press to remove >> I'm to the point now > if the boot is torn > I just buy a replacement half-shaft.. a real bi%^& to spend big money to fix a $15 rubber boot...

I have heard that there are rubber boot repair kits > permits you to fit a sliced boot over the CV assy > and then glue it whole > but I would think this repair would not last too long > too much centrifical force constantly applied > the fix would fail over time..
