2000 C280 Spark Plug Change

I have been following your threads for the past year; however, there are not much postings on the C280, particularly spark plug changes.

What are the procedures for the 2000 C280 100K spark plug change?

Dealers' partspersons have advised me to "take the coil packs off", "don't need to take the coil packs off if they're not in the way", "use a spark plug wire boot remover tool", "don't need a boot remover tool.... The only consensus of three dealers' partspersons and a Kragan Auto partsperson is that the spark plug should have ONLY one tip.

If anyone has the answers, please consider the following questions and please post:

Do the coil packs come off?

Do I need a boot remover tool?

Do you need to remove the black protective engine cover? If so, how?

What is the spark plug torque?

Thank you

I think on that engine it is congigured like a 320, same engine just a little smaller. Check out the instructions I posted Here. Good luck!

Brian's description is right on for the C280. I have a 1997 and the procedure is identical. I would add that you should put a dab of anti-sieze on the spark plug threads and an application of dielectric grease on the lip of the plug wire boots to aid in the install/removal of the boots. A wire brush and contact cleaner on the posts that ground the coils will help also. Take care with the screws on the coil cover as they tend to strip easily. The plastic wire loom pieces get brittle from the engine heat so be prepared to replace some/all of them. They are dealer only items. Plug tightening procedure is to finger tighten and the if they are taper seat plugs, turn additional 1/4 turn with plug wrench. If washer type seat, turn additional 3/4 turn when new and 1/4 turn if they are being reused.
Good luck.
Tim

A 2000 C280 has an M112 v6, not an M104 inline six. Totally different engine. I have no advice to offer, as I've not touched one of these, even though I own one! My knowledge ends at that fact the v6 has 12 plugs to change.

That's correct, the method for changing plugs on a 112 engine is quite differnt.

Do the coil packs come off?
Yes, unless you're a woman with REALLY skinny arms.

Do I need a boot remover tool?
Nope, a regular 17mm wrench will do.

Do you need to remove the black protective engine cover? If so, how?
LOL. Yes! Lift up! (you sure you want to do this? Make sure you unplug the battery. Don't really have to, but if I were YOU then I would)

What is the spark plug torque?
I believe 28Nm.

Good Luck!
