S430 Alternator/electronic

In the past year, 48000-58000 miles, my 2000 S430 has had a failed crankcase position sensor, airmass sensor, seat belt/abs sensor, replaced ball joints, repalced brake rotors and now the dealer says the alternator tests only 12.5 volts and recommends replacement. It's beginning to seem the electronic issues are systemic and I wonder what is coming next. The internal engine sensors caused a road breakdown. Should I have another alternator output test, trade the car, write MB? Any experience with with such frustrating issues? Thanks.

The crankshaft position sensor was redesigned due to poor engineering the first time around. You will most likely never have to replace again. The Mass air sensor is a different story. These seem to fail quite often, sometime right out of the box. The failed seat belt/ ABS sensor was probably a broken contact that triggered the light. Rotors and pads are routine. The ball joints are also known to fail and are one of the MANY possible failures looked at when your car goes under Service A or B. SO, what I'm saying is.........your previous problems most likely have nothing to do with your current alternator problem. In my opinion.....fix it yourself. Not too tricky at all, and I'm by no means anything close to a mechanic.

Good Luck!

Thanks much. Doubt if I will do the job myself, so heading back to the dealer is the choice. On the plus side, I have never driven a more comfortable car.
