98' CLK 320 M112 Engine

OK...so on my continuing quest to drive a "perfect" car, my next task is to tackle the minor oil leak from my valve covers. Not the valve cover gaskets, but the actual valve cover is leaking. At first I thought it was the oil cap and the oil filler neck so I R&R both. It seemed to take care of the majority of the oil leak but there is still some seeping through. I posted a pic of where it is leaking. I replaced both valve cover gaskets 8 months ago and it seems to be holding up but this time it's the cover that is on the cover.

The problem is, I can't seem to find a gasket to go here. Is there a gasket? What is it called? If no gasket, do I use MB silicone? Any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks again!

I believe that will be an infamous glue it to seal it application if you can separate the two pieces. If you can split the two items I can only suggest that you allow the MB sealant to cure for at least 8 hours prior to running the engine...........

It is an RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanization) sealant and in my experiences it has better long term sealing effectiveness when it is allowed to cure….

P.S. I appreciate the input. Is there anyone else with some input? Maybe with some personal experiences with this stuff?

According to the sources available to me, Yes this is the sealant. Loctite made, possibly still makes Ultra Black (5970) in an aerosol can with the cheese wiz applicator nozzle. The pressurized can allows the technician to create a nice uniform bead on the perimeter of the contact surfaces which are to be sealed. It also beats pushing on the syringe..............

as far as splitting the two sides goes, I was thinking I would simply take out the bolts and "tap" with my rubber malet. Sound good?

I have not paid close attention to the physical connection between the two pieces. If they are bolted together than I would be inclined to believe that after removing the bolts careful prying will seperate the two pieces.

Same engine, my oil filler neck is leaking at the seam between the top that the cap attaches to and body of the filler neck. It looks like the filler neck is actually two pieces. How did you R&R the filler neck?
