SUSPENSION W124 91 4matic 300te
SUSPENSION W124 91 4matic 300te 1991 300TE 4matic Wagon 188,128 miles
Okay let me just run down what I have done on this car since I have purchased it. Last three months!! New headgasket, chain guides, timing chain, timing chain cover, complete valve job to include new guides valve stem, timing tensioner, ect. New temp sensor, new voltage regulator, new rotor and distributor cap, new fuel pump, fuel filter, all new rotors and brake pads. New thermostat, and all new hoses. Transmission flush with new filter and emptied torque converter. New fan clutch. Door check and the list will continue/ I have sunk alot of money but as one individual said it is like therapy and I am addicted. (All parts I replaced never to a dealer or mechanic) My question is now that mechanicly the car is top notch the suspension stinks!! Alot of play in the steering wheel. Does not have that tight feeling that mercedes benz is known for. Left tie rod looks like it has been replaced but passanger side is original. What would be the best place to start with replacing bushings ect. Need advice on how much to replace or just do it all. Suspension and ride on a Mercedes can make or break a car and I need that solid ride especially after all the above work. Also how many miles can I expect now from the engine with all the work I have performed? Thanks for all of your help. George |

My advice George: Just do it all - that's how you end up anyway. At least if you want the car to perform the way it was designed to. "All" means: (1) rear: all links, subframe bushings, differential bushings, trailing arm bushings, accumulators, sway bar bushings and links, remove all rust on this occasion (2) front: ball joints, control arm bushings (alternatively: new control arms), shocks, shock mounts, sway bar bushings, check wheel bearings (play), tie rods, drag link, idler arm bushing. That's how I did and I do not regret. Although, starting as a complete novice to automotive repair, I had many difficult moments... luckily people from this forum are very helpful with advice.
Regards, Bruno
