Slide/Tilt Roof Repair Secret Tip on 300CE!

After you do all the easy stuff....yeah...
You need to remove the sliders from each side; the CD shows the two special tools to use....I DON'T NEED NO STINKIN' SPECIAL TOOLS!"

This shows one of the sliders in question. Here it is unbolted from the bar that attaches to the cable mechanism.

I moved the slider all the way back to reveal the three screws one has to remove from the side slider guide. The guide then pops out and swivels to the side as shown. One can then easily remove the slider.

REMEMBER TO SCHEDULE ROOF CLEANING AND REGREASING TO AVOID LOSS OF $$$ FROM YOUR WALLET!!

Hope this helps somebody.

de-greasing?

Mines an 89 300 CE and the sunroof opens and closes just fine. One side fails on the "tilt up" mode, so I don't use it.

I lube the rails with the special ($$) MB grease now and again, But am curious about your reference to "de-greasing". I want to do any possible preventative maintenance on the sunroof to avoid future problems. Will you explain what you mean?
Thanks

If you don't need no stinken special tools, you don't need a sticken sunroof.

Seriously the vise grip tool is necessary to square the roof in the hole. The 6mm pins are no longer available from MB. I use 2 long 6mm bolts that work just fine. The vise grip tool is only about $62.00. Just think of how much you are saving on labor by doing it yourself, and not to mention how much fun you are having.

Are those tools and stuff laying on the unprotected paint of your roof?

De-grease?

I just meant to clean the gritty grease off your rails, if you have any...

Autozen, Please post details on what you actually do w/ your bolts to square the roof.

The bolts don't square the roof. They only line up the two sliders you bought. The vise grip tool lines up the roof. If you can get ahold of a copy of the factory 124 repair manual, there is a picture of the tool with instructions on how to align. Since theses manuals are translated by someone who speaks two languages and knows nothing about cars, the instructions are as clear mud. You should be able to figure it out and improvise a tool. I bought the tool, because I'll be doing more than one sunroof, and for $65.00 it's not worth it to improvise every time.
