'94 C280 Starter Bolts removal

I'm removing the starter and the bolt heads are so close to the firewall that even if I can get a wrench or crowsfoot on them there is little room to get a grip on or turn the wrench. Is there a special tool for removing starter bolts or do I have to lower the engine?
