I was just thinking (before reading this thread) that there would be a good spinoff product for Taser international. ... A Ta-STAR.

Adsitco sells a removeable star.

Again, the problem with "booby traps" is that they cause indiscriminate harm. A kid that touches, either intentionally or accidentally, a hood star that has been razor sharpened is going to have a great claim against the idiot owner. Similarly, an electrified one that causes a fall, or worse, a cardiac event in someone so predisposed, is going to do it to a person whether they're a thief or not.

Jarod...you can get the star at any online mercedes parts store...as well as ebay. If you get to 50 dollars..so hard to do you can also get free shipping from most. I too like the micro switch idea...but you really have to look at this practically. How much time and money do you really want to spend on safeguarding a 20 dollar item that is easily replaced? And...in the case of our thread starter...it may be the same guys. Piss them off...hmmm, may not be worth doing anything about it.

I just went to adsitco, and now I am still liking the removable even more.

Adsitco Removable Star

The price is double (44.10) a non removable...but hey...its already paid for itself in two steals that never happened

And...they sell the replacement star for 17...just in case you do forget to take it..and it gets stolen...they are able to steal it without damaging anything...and for 17 bucks...you can just buy the star without the base.

The only problem I see with the removable star is they don't seem to list one for the W116 chassis cars. Will one for a W123 work? Maybe with a little "tweaking"?

electric

Ive had a thought. I dont know. If the star was insulated from the rest of the car, an electric fence coil could be attached to it. Great deturent.

If I lost one, I'd go with the adsitco replacement.

At least now, future disappearances only cost $17...
and you can easily pocket the star,
if you've got a bad feeling about an area.

My worry is that they will steal my star too. My dad suggested that i change my grill to the amg style one with the big star in the middle of the grill. its like $80 on ebay for a w126.

I have a carbon fiber one in real nice shape I don't want. Includes the chrome and carbon center. Adsitco sells them, look it up for a pic.

No I don't, I prefer money orders, take your time. It has been sitting in my basement collecting dust since I pulled it off my 420 parts car. It isn't perfect but its very nice. I would use it on my car and I am very picky, but I am not a fan of the SEC look.

That seems to be it, man those things are expensive new.

A bit of ornamental humor

Heck with the star. Go for something with some brawn. My recently purchased E320 wagon came with this preinstalled.
