M103 Spark Plug Wire Cover Won't Stay Put
Ever since I took it off to replace the spark plug wires several years ago the plastic cover that goes over the wires and holds them against the valve cover just won't stay put. As much bandwidth the M103 gets here I've never seen any mention of it. Is it just mine or is it just me?

For what it's worth, the plastic spark plug wire cover on the valve cover of my m102 won't stay put either..
I purchased a new one a couple years ago, because it was missing when I bought the car. The wires are Bosch. I'm wondering if they are too thick.. Everything seems to be routed properly, but the top part of the cover won't stay seated into the bottom half, as if the fastener plugs were already stripped or something.. Just an eye sore really.

As you suggest the female threads do get stripped so the fasteners will not tighten. I suspect the original ignition wires were Beru so the Bosch replacement wires may indeed be a larger diameter preventing the cover from fitting properly.

we have the same problem with the 300e. I think the wires were replaced on it. I gave up.

I assume that you are talking about the long flat plastic cover. You can make it fit by neatly getting the wires in place and then neatly wrap in a few places with electrical tape. This keeps the wires from putting pressure on the valve cover which forces the cover up and out of position.
It's been a LONG time since I did this so my explanation may be flawed. Good luck, |

It's nearly impossible to get the spark plug wire holder on an M103 to work correctly unless it's brand new...even then they can be problamatic.
I would get a new upper and lower piece and use the electrical tape idea as mentioned above..it's really the best soloution. Jonathan

Spark plug wire covers on 103 motors should be thrown away at your earliest convenience. There are no exceptions to this rule.

I bought a new one and it still keeps poping out, at least the back half is still holding, I will try a real small screw

So it's not me. I was always suspicious of trim under the hood. My wife's Jetta's engine on the other hand has significant amounts of trim that do nothing but look good. If they come off, they stay off, my wife doesn't care about what her engine looks like, at least not yet.

Yep. On all the M103s I deal with, I get a helper to assist me in getting all the wires into the plastic strips and we use electrical tape in about 3 places.
