My CLK thinks the trunk is open.

Car is a 2000 CLK 430. A couple of days ago, the trunk open indicator LED on the console trunk switch cam on and stayed on. I hadn't opened the trunk recently. Because the car thinks the trunk is open, the alarm won't arm because of this.
I first made sure the trunk WAS truly closed. It is.

The only switch i could locate is the grey pin switch a couple of inches to the left of the trunk latch. This is on the trunk, not the chassis. Played with the switch. LED stayed on.

I removed the switch and tested it. It seems to be working fine.

Trunk open = switch closed (pin extended)
Trunk Closed = Switch open. (pin in)

Is that the way the switch is supposed to work? Is there another switch?

Even when i disconnect the switch, that should open the circuit making the trunk closed to the computer, but my light stays on.

I also noticed the trunk light doesn't work. The bulb is fine. I was going to pull the bulb, in case it was lit and draining the battery. I dont recall if the bulb ever worked, so i dont know if that is related.

I dont want to mess with it too much, because i assume it is attached to a computer.

Any ideas?? thanks ahead of time.

The world is worse today. The trunk opened once, when i got out of work. Now it doesn't open at all. I think the car thinks the trunk is open, so it wont fire the soleonid. Good day to find out the mechanical lock doesn't work, huh? AND, on the way home from work last night, i hit a moon size pothole, and broke the left front wheel. Holding air, but i think that's a temproary situation. Thinking i have to break in thru the back seats pretty soon.

I REALLY need some ideas. before i crowbar my damn trunk.
