Question 1998 MB C230 "crank no start"

We have a 1998 MB C230 with a "crank no start" condition. We scanned with the Snap On OBDII and got 2 pending codes. One was for the intake air temp and the other was for the crank position sensor.

We have no fuel and no spark. We are also concerned that we may be dealing with a Drive Authorization System problem.

We don't have the right software for the Baum tool to allow us to scan this car.

Any information will be appreciated.

Regards, Skip

I would recommend testing the crank position sensor since there is a pending code for it.

1998 MB C230 crank no start

Thanks for the response!

It is FIXED....I think.

We removed the starter and unplugged the crank sensor and, finding no evidence of moisture or corrosion, cleaned it and plugged it back in.

Rapped on the fuel tank a few times since the computer will not permit a start if the gas or oil is too low.

Put everything back together, connected the battery, and it started with the first turn of the key.

Is this true? Will the car really not start if the ECU sees a low oil or fuel situation? At what point did Mercedes introduce this 'feature'?

?

Well I've never heard of this. I don't think it's correct though. Obviously the engine is not going to start if the car is low on fuel, but the oil thing? I don't think so. I've seen engines started on newer cars without oil in them(don't ask) Anybody else have any input? I'd still like to think that you have a problem with your crank sensor. You've got a code for the sensor so I'd have to believe there is a problem. I've seen them fail once the engine is running, and it's been an intermittent problem. These sensors seem to develop a "dead spot" in them. Just my two cents for what it's worth.
