Used water pump. Dont laugh

I purchased a '82 300TD and the water pump died. Last weekend I ordered on from Oriley and it did not come in. I have a parts car a '82 240d and a '85 280te gas burner. Would it be a goofy thing to pull the waterpump off the 240d and put it on the 300d? Will the 280te and or the 240d waterpump fit the 300td? (tell me yes)
Im not going to bed until I get a reply. My plan was is to do the transplant before church early in the am. If I have not given enough info in this post, let me know as I am watching this post, all night if need be. Thanks Treeman

and

be careful with the gasket. if you tear it you can use a little silicone to patch.
