Well, every car has a different capacity of holding fluid depending on how much you get out. I used about 6 1/2 quarts in mine. The manual says the tranny hold 8 quarts so I am guessing that I didnt get all out but I did get most of it which is a good thing. Mine is an 87 420. I did the job when it was about 30 deg. outside. Well I closed my garage door and that helped alittle.

Excellent. I am going to try to tackle this tomorrow, but one thing I have not seen is what type of transmission fluid is required (as I have still not received my owners manual). I am assuming that only "Mercedes" transmission fluid can be used?

Hopefully I am wrong, as my Mercedes dealer is 22 miles away and I do not have time to drive down there tomorrow.

Thanks.

I used the Castrol Dexron/Mercon. You dont necessarily need to use the MB fluid.

Any common Dexron/Mercon ATF will work. I was using Autozones house brand in the SDL while it had a wicked leak. I think it was like $1.70 a quart. Now that the leak is fixed I use Mobil 1.
