2002 Jetta clutch won't disengage need guidance

Hello,

Trying to help my coworker. I can't find any clutch master cylinder on this thing but is it a hydraulic clutch? Anyway, it doesn't disengage all the way so he is grinding the gears. Painful to hear. The dealer says he needs 800.00 of work to fix it!! Can someone recommend a VW forum?

Thanks,

Mike

Clutch Problems

Yes, The Clutch Is Hydraulic. It Would Be Rare That The Hydraulics Would Be The Problem! What Engine Do You Have? Hopefully Not A 1.8t These Engines Had A Problem With Taking Out The Clutch. These Cars Use A Dual Mass Flywheel And They Would Explode Inside (quite Common). Vw Is Aware Of This Problem So It Might Still Be Covered Under Warranty.the Best Vw Site Is Called Vwvortex.com.

Thanks. He looked at that site and didn't see much about this problem he claims. Mechanic is digging into it right now.

.
The master cylinder is on the fire wall behind the clutch pedal, you have to remove the clutch pedal, a real PITA job. The slave cylinder is on the input shaft of the transmission, you have to remove the transmission.

If you still have a clutch pedal, like in not spongy, sloppy, lose and releasing three to four inches from the floor. The problem is the clutch.
