Angry Removal of headlamp bulb retaining ring???? 1990 300E

How in the world do I remove the retaining ring for the headlamp bulb for a 1990 300E ?? I know its not rocket science, and im not the most mechanically inclined, but I cant figure it out. aiaiaiaiaiaii. any help would be appreciated. One failed so I will replace them both. Somehow i removed a small spring from the housing and get get it back on,oooops. I hope I didnt need that

milhan, turn the retaining ring CCW. If it's difficult to turn place a piece of wood on one of the ears and tap lightly with a small hammer to get it started. Be careful not to use too much force or you will break off the ear. Also, avoid touching the glass of the replacement bulbs when you're installing them.

Ok I will try doing this. thanks. So the ring does have threads, it wont just snap out?

It doesn't have threads per se, but it does have about a quarter turn of a "thread." It's a locking ring that slides on, then is turned to hold the bulb in tight. Unscrew it about a quarter to a third of a turn CCW, and the ring pulls straight off.

FWIW, the ones on my car have always been a bear to remove. I usually use a wadded-up piece of shoptowel to help keep my fingers from getting bruised.
