E320 Wagon VIBRATION IN COLD IDLE & GEAR IN 'D'
Hi,
Just bought a used 99 E320 wagon and I'm getting vibration only when the car is on D or on lower gears (but not P, R or N). It gradually improves as the car warms up. I did a search and an SL320 had similar problems and it went away when the motor mounts were replaced. It makes sense since the car has a pronounced thump when I start the car. What do you guys think? Is it that straightforward?

Bad motor mounts seems like a logical conclusion. How many miles on the car?

The car's got 95K on the odometer and rides like a dream for a station wagon. Power from a torque perspective is better than my W124. I'll go ahead and change them out... thanks for the encouragement, guys. Man, I miss this forum.

The motor mounts did the trick. The car is smooth when Drive is engaged, and the "thunk" I hear upon starting the engine has also disappeared.
