1979 MB wagon hydraulic shock replacement

Now own a 1979 wagon, replacement of hydraulic shocks needed in rear , any kits out there that i can use to bypass this expensive shock system. Hydraulic pump rides on timing chain ,if pump runs dry will this pump possible seize? Plan on looping system ,so the pump still keeps fluid in it . Anyone fixed this problem for a wagon before?

several have done it.

a guy was talking of it a few weeks ago here and thinking of offering a kit for it.

the stock system is really sweet when it is all working correctly. what symptoms are you haviing?

Most people seem to think that fixing the existing system is the best repair. Somewhere in a distant past post, someone claimed that the accumulators could be recharged. I think he suggested it is routinely done for Citroens.

Hydraulic shock leak

Shock leaking at driver rear and system has been disabled at the leveler, part missing is the other side of the eye bolt. The feed back so for from other forums are that the dissimiliar metals mb used on the line junction makes a hard repair due to lines not wanting to release from the female junction block, rare aluminium part, its this and a few other details that have me concerned doing a repair of this magnitude. #1 The system , after fixed, will i have other leaks elsewhere, #2 age of car, is it worth its value to fix ,#3 cost in general to do it right is up in the $1300-$1600 range , replacing many parts.
A KIT OF THIS TYPE IS NEEDED FOR THESE OLDER MODELS
Knowing its great features, when working properly, may tend to stear some MB owners to do the repair ,but for those who just want an already dependable vehicle on the road again ,we need another option.

Doc diesel

Found the post , doc diesel on sept 7 2005 was attempting an sls transplant , pictures and recommendations would follow after surgery , wow , the plot thickens, just kidding . Doc DEISEL was it a go for the conversion? Did it work to your satisfaction? Im looking into this same fix, do have some help though, a shock specialist who works and deals with subjects ,just like this one ,every day . at a factory, for 26 years. The amount of overhang these cars have over the rear end and weight control needed when loaded ,maybe the key in the balance of a suitable replacement candidate. The sls mercedes system does all of this and i marvel at the engineering put forth , just like to design a new way if at all possible.
