S420, I'm unfamiliar with the S-Class cars; however, I suspect a trunk liner panel needs to be R/R to gain access to the nuts securing the assembly to the body. Take a close look at the new assembly and it should be obvious how it mounts to the body.

I have a 560SL, but I will say that the taillights are surprisingly delicate and will stress crack particularly at the places where the colored parts join if not put in evenly. I assume that you are just replacing the lens.


Torque just enough to snug the lens and no more!
