Question Which is more powerful, C240 or C230 Kompressor?

What I know is that the C240 is 6 cylinders and the C230 Kompressor is 4 cylinders. But which is more poerful and which one is better overall?

Thank you : ))..

neither...the 240 sounds better, less agricultural in my experience. The 230 Kompressor just doesn't sound good to me, I guess gritty is the best word.

I test drove a C230 Kompressor a couple of years ago - I was shocked at how unrefined the engine was. My 300D 2.5 turbo was much smoother and even quieter than the example I drove. On the plus side Kompressor engine makes great power and they have a repuatation for good fuel economy.

The little Kompressor motor has lots more power. The early C240's were absolute dogs! MB came out with an engine management software update a few years ago to give the 240's a little more power. As TimFreeh stated, the early Kompressor engines aren't exactly quiet or smooth. He's probably referring to the M111/W202 combination. The newer M271/W203 is much quieter/smoother in comparison.

The C240's are 4 bangers. Personaly I don't like them C280's don't cost much more and the 6 is more of what I expect out of a MB.

The C240 engines in 203 cars were a 2.6 liter V6 engine and always felt sluggish to me. I used to have a 2002 C230K and it was a very peppy engine in comparison. Maybe by 2002 it was a little more refined because I do not remember it being rough or unrefined. It was just a 4 cylinder engine, usually not as smooth as a six or eight cylinder engine.

I like the way mine sounds.
It says " Don't mess with me "!
As far as idling smooth, I'll match mine against any V-6 or V-8 out there.

C320. No, it's not the answer you want, but it's the right answer!

I just bought a mint condition 99 C230K W202. I previously almost bought a C280 and fell in love with that 6 cylinder as it was so refined and smooth!

But I cant say im complaining with the C230K engine...sure its rough and sounds like a tractor when idling but when revved up it sounds like a mean 4 cylinder and sure acts like one!

Not to mention the fact that you can get a pulley and bump the power up 25-30 HP!!! For less than a grand....

I could get a pulley and pump but after driving a big 380SEL for many years, this C230K is now more than enough power for me....besides driving in the city alot of power is useless and will get me into trouble.

I don't think that C 55 exists.
