C250 Ventilation Fan Issues

Has anyone had problems with their C250 ventilation fan. Mine's a '98 without A/C, the fan has taken to not working for about 2/3 minutes, it starts slowly then soon up to speed. Occasionally it doesn't come on at all!
I took the inlet cover off the front & checked the fan revolves freely, which it does. I can also hear a distinct click from, what I guess is a solenoid in the dash when the switch is turned on & off........Anyone got suggestions??

Thanks for that. Strangely enough it's worked fine since I posted the question! I expect it will stop working soon.
