Update: on coolant leak
Last night I was darned determined to find it.
73 450sl 90,000 miles Front end on ramps. I cleaned under the car with a rag very well. Started and warmed it up. While running looked for coolant top and bottom. None could be found. Shut the car off and again inspected everything. No leak to be found, atleast I might have ruled somethings out. Head gasket looks fine. Water pump looks fine. Drivers side heater hose looks like *****. Clamp to engine rusted badly. Know I wonder, having the car on front ramps and not being level chould have changed the flow and the leaking coolant is being stored till it gets level again. I will try again this weekend. Now for an engine oil question. 15-40 pennzoil has about 2 hours of run time on it. It looks black already. A month ago I removed the valve covers and was shocked to see how varnished things were in side. What is a good engine cleaner or flush or should I leave it alone? Thanks

No idea about your coolant problem, but as for cleaning up the inside of the engine, I've found nothing to do it better than Mobil 1. It's a joy to dismantle an engine that's been running on synthetic oil for a while.
