We've been told that the driver side power seat switch is "going bad" on my wife's W210.
The forward/reverse action is reversed; push forward to go back, and push back to go forward. ![]() ![]() Now I may be a bit slow, but NO function sounds like switch failure, and REVERSE action sounds spooky! If it's a bad switch, it might be covered StarMark since we paid for full electrical coverage, which would be a good outcome. If not, is it DIY on a door with side impact SRS? I'd hate to set that off! ![]() On a side note, we've now broken our 2nd door open/closed sensing switch; if we don't remember to let the seatbelt retract before closing the door it neatly breaks the plastic switch! For now the switch is taped down to keep the interior lights off and it's taped in place to prevent the need to fish it out of the "B" pillar. We're learning... Thanks in advance, and BCingU, Jim. |

It's a W210, W210, W210...
Ya know, the trouble with touch-typing is you have to be careful what you touch, and in what order.
Yes it's a W210, despite the W201 in the topic. ![]() BCingU, Jim |

No.... it most likely was not the switch. I replaced my switch and the exact same problem continued which lead me to think about what may have taken place during the cars visit to the body shop.
Turns out that if the battery is disconnected and reconnected while the switch is unplugged it fail to initialize and causes the odd behavior "moving forward when you push the button back" etc... I finally just disconnected the battery and reconnected it and the seat and wheel adjustment worked normally again. This was all discovered after I purchased the new expensive seat switch, that cannot be returned. Oh well at least it’s working... |
