MB antifreeze $29! per gallon from dealer

I was shocked to learn the local MB dealer here in Fresno charge $29 for a gallon of MB antifreeze, excluding tax. Are these people out of their mind? Is this a universal thing around the country or I simply live in the wrong place?

I tried to find Zerex G-05 at Pep boys and Autozone, to no avail. Can anybody kindly tell me where I can find it?

I know mail order probably is the way to go.

Are dealers digging their own graves?

my local CarQuest charges $19.95 for the G05, but since I work at a shop, they gave me the "employee discount" rate of $11.99...lucky me. My dealer only gets me for $15.99, employee rate for the G05 in the white bottle with the star on it.

That was a good question! My MB has the green anti-freeze and I have also been looking for Zerex. None @ any of our local Wal-Marts and none @ any of the Advance stores. I have not yet looked @ any of our local AutoZones. There are a couple of CarQuests here, so I will try there. Better yet, I will call the dealer tomorrow to see how much they charge.

the geniuses at Autozone and Advance said they had never even heard of it, and declined to order it...the guy @ O'Reilly's said they don't stock it but they could get it, he wasn't sure about pricing though.

It went up a lot over the past couple of years. Two years ago I paid $12 a gallon at the dealer. $29 sounds like a lot I expect to pay $20 this spring.

$14 at my local MB dealer as of last week. If you can't find Zerex G-05 you can also use Ford Motorcraft Premium Gold coolant which is the same thing.

Thanks. Hopefully my dealer has it for that as well.

As mentioned, mine has the green coolant. Should I flush out the radiator? If so, how should I do this?

I can find the Gold bottled zerex at my local pep boys for $12 and change. Seems pretty cheap... I went ahead and bought a few bottles for my radiator fluid replacement $29 is a very steep price to pay at the dealer. i tihnk you need to go shopping around other dealers or get it online. That price is just ridiculous.

This summer I paid $20 at the dealer. $29 sounds a tad high.

Exclamation

MB antifreeze part number Q-0-03-0002 has a list of $22 as of Jan 1.

Guess that dealer needs a lot more money than list!!

While 29 dollars seems high...I would change it as soon as possible and flush out the green stuff. Skip a couple of lunches and the cost is negligible.

Remember the anti-freeze will last a minimum of two years...most people go 3.

in my area, it's just one gallon plus water.

That said, I got Zerex G-5 last year at pep boys for about 10 dollars a gallon.

I am a big believer in fresh fluids throughout a car's system.

Go to zerex website and you will be able to find local dealers in your area.
