95 E320 air pump siezed

It appears as if my air pump has siezed, which seriously shredded my fan belt. Part of the belt has melted into the ribs of serveral of the pulleys and most of the belt has wrapped itself around the radiator fan. Hopefully I can untangle the mess and clean of the pulleys. (any suggestions?)

After reading several of the older threads, it appears that I really dont need the air pump and can just use a shorter belt. If so, which one?

Thanks

A re-built pump is only about $400. If you go that route, be sure to change out the valve at the exhaust manifold.

My guess is not that the pump itself has seized, but rather the pulley bearing.

Mercedes sells a rebuild kit for the pulley and bearing in the low $200 range.

You can buy it at the dealer.

You remove the air pump from the car, install the new pulley and bearing, and re-install.

Hey Paul!

------
Maxwell -- look at my post from last week. Just did an a.i.r. pump replacement on my '95 E320. Told the whole story.

Good luck.
