My left rear window goes down only part way. Going back up fine. I searched this site and it seems that power window repairs are best left to experts. Anyone care to offer their opinion? I am handy but not a mechanic. Car is almost perfect in other respects so must fix this.

Most of the time it is the switch.
Try swapping the switches and see if that makes a difference. If it does, replace the bad switch. If the electric motor continues to run after the window stops, you might take the interior panel off and check for an obstruction in the window mechanism. It's not a huge deal - you just need to be careful not to scratch, bend or break any of the interior parts. The Haynes manual for the 123 is pretty good.

Chuck,
My window stops on way down and then "pops"....sounds like its getting power and trying to retract but something isn't working in the gears/mechanism. I don't think it is the switch (wish it were). I imagine I'd have to take seat out (its a coupe) and remove side panel from bottom up. I bet if I can get the panel off I will be able to see whats wrong and fix it. I keep reading about this Haynes manual. Do you know where I can get one? I do enjoy working on my car. Nic |

DO a search on window regulator. I think that is your problem. The only way to find out for sure is...to take it apart. It is definetely a DIY kind of job...IF... you have the manuals. Otherwise, let the pros do it.

Try books4cars.com or tmcpubl.com.
I have the chassis manual for the 123, and I will take a look at the rear window sections over the weekend and get back to you. Chuck |

Thanks Guys,
I looked at window regulator on search and have much better sense of scope of problem. Thats what it probably is (the regulator). Chuck, if you have the fixit info, let me know next week - but remember that I have a coupe so procedure may differ some from 123 sedan. I'll check with the web site on getting a book as I need one anyway. Thanks again, Nic |

TMC pubs DO have the books but, there are expensive$$$$$ You may be better off buying the CD (if available) with everything included.
