95 Mercedes C220 Speedometer

1995 Mercedes C220 w/ 157000 miles - My daughters speedometer and gas gauge has gotten where it doesnt work when cold (below 40 F). Once the car is warmed up it works fine. Any ideas ?

Somewhat common problem on the 1994-96 C-class cars.

TRY tapping on the dash pad above the speedo area WHEN they aren't working...if they start then the needles are STICKING to the resting peg.

Removal of the complete cluster & then opening the front & cleaning the needles & resting pegs with Q-tip & alcohol should do the trick....

My freind's 94 C220 does this sometimes but just the rpm sticks. Revving the engine got it to work.

Listen to MB DOC

MB DOC is right as usual. The pins on all of the gauges of the 1995 C-Class can become sticky due to varying weather conditions. My temperature gauge sticks occasionally but not enough to go to the trouble of disassembling to clean. The condition comes and goes and usually after the inside cabin temperature warms up, everything is fine.

speedometer

ok I have the same problem with a 95 C200 and I have a friend that owns a smog shop and he also has program in his computer called ALL DATA which contains all kinds of technical data and recalls and so on and according to ALL DATA there is a problem with the speedometer because of moisture that has worked its way into the "cut off kick down relay" and it says to fix this issue to modify or replace the bracket that holds the relay so that it better covers the relay or something like that

Now my problem is that I do not know where this relay is located and theres no search box in ALL DATA and my friend doesnt have time to look for it right now so if anyone knows where this relay is located then please do tell so that this speedometer issue can be resolved...

NOTE: (dor those who have not heard of ALL DATA:
ALL DATA requires a monthly subcription cost of around $200 a month because of all the updates and info that is constantly added to it so any info in it is allways current and up to date...

ALSO exact spelling or tittle of relay metioned above might not be 100% accurate because i dont have the peice of paper in front of me that i printed out but it definately has the word kickdown relay in the tittle...

sory for typos but this keyboard sucks and no time to spell check

thank you
