control arm r&r on 129 body SL
I have a bad ball joint on my R129, so I figured I would replace the lower control arms on both sides with the Febi control arms that include the bushings and ball joint. I have a few questions:
With the correct spring compressor and ball joint puller this doesn't sound like a job that will be too tough, or am I missing something? Looks like: remove spring unbolt swaybar from LCA unbolt LCA from frame remove bolts and support LCA pop ball joint with puller opposite for installation. My biggest concerns is if anyone has done this and things turned out to be a pain, for instance, is getting the LCA lined up to bolt back onto the frame a challenge? If I bolt it back on with the bolts and washers in the correct place (mark them before removal and install in same position) will I be close enough to alligned in order to drive 20 miles to the allignment shop? and.... where can I rent a spring compressor cheaper than the 110 bux that performance products wants. The allignment guys want about $375 for installation. I am trying to see if saving the 200 bux or so is worth it. ![]() just FYI - I have installed springs and control arms, ball joints, just about everything on my impala SS, so I kinda know what I am doing. Thanks! |
