W140 and R129 cluster interchangeable?

Can I put a W140 instrument cluster in my 1990 300SL? If so, what years will fit?

I have the following things wrong with my cluster now:
-Clock dead
-bulb for outside temp indicator ALWAYS stays on (even with car off). This kills the battery after a few days
-Small crack in clear plastic face of cluster

I thought of buying a W140 speedo and swapping parts between the two in order to make one good one. The prices on R129 clusters are outrageous and I can get a W140 one cheap if it will fit.

The two clusters look identical (in pictures) to me.. are they the same or close enough?

Thanks!
Neal

odds are the clock and the temp guage are the same. You could buy a 140 cluster and swap those two components as well as the plastic front.

I don't know for sure though...sorry
