W126 Electrical seat problem SOLVED!!
I think its always nice when someone "closes the loop" and supplies the final answer to a vexing problem.
If you remember, my passenger side seat controls only worked for the front rise/fall and the fore and aft. The 2 functions on the rear electrical plug ( rear rise/fall, and recline) were dead. I tried cleaning, as well as replacing the switch. I could make the functions work by jumping B+, and B- to the terminlas in the switch plug. I eventually discovered the problem--the lesson on any old car of which you are not the original owner is NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING!!!!. Somewhere in its past, a previous "mechanic" had switched the B+ and B- plugs on the 6 wire plug. He had also switched the terminals so that the two working functions were correct. The problem, is that while each side of the switch has its own B+, they share the B-. However, with them reversed in the plug, there was no B- available for the rear plug. Those of you who have never been inside of that switch probably are not able to follow what I said, but the real lesson is simply: NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING!! Anyway, I now have full seat functions, and I can )finally) reassemble the passenger door, and move on! Yeah! |
