A140 Starting Fault

To all those out there please could you help I have a good friend with a A140 he has only had the vehicle some 6 months(secondhand) and since he has had it he has been experiencing intermittent starting problems the car is left up his path for the garage to collect it and when they arrive some hours later the vehicle starts (when i say wont start the dash lights illuminate but nothing happens when the ignition key is turned) an after market immobilizer had been fitted and this was bypassed to illiminate the problem. the AA man by-passed the starter relay and the vehicle starts. the vehicle has been into the main mercedes benz agents in Chester on several occasions and they cannot find any fault and now the garage he bought it from have washed their hands of the vehicle leaving him high and dry without a paddle. Ive tried to conntact mercedes benz direct on the internet but their wed page does not have a technical help line to contact which i find unbelievable for a so called prestige car manufacturer.

I myself am a auto electrician but do not have the equipment to check out the ECU or associated electronic equipment and have had no joy in tracking down anyone who has and as you will apreciate its very expensive to change ECU's willy nilly so if anyone out there has some idea's or Mr Mercedes benz's ear please let me know

Regards
Grumpy

1. Don't screw with the car ( hack-job immobilizer ).
2. Why did the previous owner get rid of it ?
3. Haven't seen a direct tech. help line to a manufacturer yet, that is accessible to " amateurs ".
4. If you can contact the prior owner & ask him wether he ever had a similar problem with the car, and he responds " NO ", it would once again suggest a hackjob by the immobilizer installer.
