Headliner removal on wagon?
Vehicle is 1992 300 TE. I need to install new lift cylinders, struts, shocks or whatever they are call. I've removed necessary trim to expose area, but I'm not certain how to proceed.
Please see photo below. Do I need to remove more of the headliner, it would seem so. Also my information is struts come out forward, i.e., toward the front of vehicle, it that right? If I need to take more headliner off where do I start and how does it connect to rear most part of vehicle, I can not tell? |

Wish I could help you with the details on this Ron but I do know that you should be very careful with the headliner especially in a wagon because it is very expensive. Also if you could do me a favor since you've gone this far; I have an electrical short in my '94 wagon where the rear cab lights go off and the third brake light comes on when the back hatch is fully extended. Could you please look at the wiring and tell me where an insulation breakdown or pinch point could've happened to cause this? By the way I've been in Charleston about 6 times because my daughter lives in the Mount Pleasant Section! I love the people and the area but being from New England I find it Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy to hot!

I got the headliner down with no problem. There is a wire that goes thru the back of headliner and you just pull on it towards the rear of vehicle and release it from the metal tabs that hold it in.
Not sure about pinch points, everything is in there pretty tight and in close quarters. You'll probably have to remove part of headliner to get in there and look. |

I did this repair on mine last summer. I wound up dropping down the rearmost fabric part of the headliner by just unhooking it for more room to work. That was all that needed to come down as far as the headliner goes. At the front part of the shock you have a pin that attaches the shock to the body and a clip that must be "tweaked" to remove the pin. All very close quarters work. The biggest pain for me was getting the pin back into the shock at the front. Get something to hold the hatch open for you while you're doing this. I used a 2 x 4.
Regarding your issue dtf, just before I bought my TE the P.O. was having the same problems as you and had the harness repaired at the driver's side hinge for the hatch. If'n I were you, I'd start there.
