Is AMSOIL ATF approved for 1988 SEL 420?
My mechanic suggested that I use AMSOIL ATF in the transmission of my 1988 SEL 420. Maintenance manuals stress that you must use only MB approved lubricants. I cannot find a refence that indicates that the AMSOIL ATF is approved. Does anyone have such a source?
Thank you in advance for any help. rcg7550 |

Let me guess...your mechanic is an Amsoil dealer, right?
Use the MB-approved ATF. But personally, I use Dexron III in my '79 -- but the car is already a leaky beater...

I changed the fluid in my 91 350sdl to AMSOIL last fall, the car shifts smoother, the fluid smells good and no discoloration. My tech was amazed when he dropped the pan and saw NO metal shavings, gunk, or other assorted things that usually reside at the bottom of the pan. The oil had about 46K on it. The original owner (I am owner #2) changed the tranny oil at 1500 miles new, 55K then I changed it 101K last fall. All my mb's now have amsoil, auto and manual trannys.
