Alarm Module - which one?

Despite my attempts at lubricating the driver's door lock, the key is still hard to get into the lock, and the alarm is not disarmed when the key is turned. The upshot is that even if you can get the key into the lock, when you turn it and open the door the alarm goes off.

I'm thinking I have to replace the lock, but before I do that I'd like to disconnect the alarm module. I pulled the carpeting and metal cover from the passenger footwell, and saw several connectors. The two largest have black (left in the photo below, with a 126 part number) and silver (top in the photo, with a 124 part number).

I think it's the black one, but I want to make absolutley sure before I disconnect it. There are two connectors attached to it, one I believe is for the door switches, the other for the radio.

What happens to the radio after I disconnect the alarm module?

This is for my 1993 W124 300E2.8.

You are correct. Black box on left of picture is alarm module. Mine's disconnected and radio still works fine. Mine is a 126, though.

Thanks for the info - if it stops raining for long enough tomorrow, I'll go out and disconnect it.

What's the silver module for? It had a VDO logo as well as a Star stamped in to the case.

Unhappy

Ok, I disconnected the alarm module, and the driver's door now does not set of the alarm when opened after unlocking.

However, the car won't start with the alarm module disconnected. Once I reconnect it, the car fires up straight away.

I'm thinking ignition interlock but I'm not sure how to disable that, I'm guessing it's tied to the alarm module somehow.

How can I disable both the alarm and the interlock until I can replace the driver's door lock?

Does anyone have any ideas on this? How can I disable the alarm and still have the car start in the morning?

alarm problems

Hi,
You probably know already, that you need a new door lock which are quite expensive. Don't know your car but in the W201 there is in the front of fuse panel a rectangular black box in which you find a relay and 2 red fuses. By removing the fuses I can disable the alarm and flashing of the lights. May be there is something similar in your car.

I'm already resigned to buying a new lock - I'm saving my tax refund and getting ready to re-mortgage my house before asking the dealer to order a new one

I just need a temporary solution until I can get the lock ordered and installed (will need instructions on that too).

The car's still sat in my driveway, needs a wash if you're offering

Graphite powder has temporarily solved the problem, coupled with the warmer weather.

I expect I'll be replacing the lock come October/November time. Am thinking of replacing the ignition lock too - would this be worthwhile?

I've got the same problem on the passenger side. Just how expensive are the OEM keyed locks from the dealer?
